10 Questions with Tessa Thomas

 By Good Read Mag Editors

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” - Aristotle

It’s time we got to know our contributors a bit better. The editors here at the magazine present “10 Questions with...”. It’s simple; we asked our contributors a variety of questions so our readers can get to know them a bit better. That quote above, for example, is one of Tessa Thomas’ favourites.

1. What inspires you?

Tessa Thomas: I actually think that pretty much anything is possible in terms of human achievement and that’s very inspiring. Why not me? Why not you? Why not now?

2. What’s your favourite ’90s jam?

TT: This is tough…I think you gotta feel it in your soul, so for me, it can really only come down to Whitney, Mariah or Boyz II Men, and how can you choose!? I’m going to have to go with “Always Be My Baby” by Mariah Carey. From the first few notes it always gives me a boost.

3. Who would win in a fight between Bugs Bunny and Roger Rabbit?

TT: I’m going to have to go with Bugs on this one - though I think the last time I saw “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” was during Jean Chrétien’s first term.

4. If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?

TT: I’m going to go with lioness - native to hot and sunny climates, strong community vibe with the pride, top of the kingdom, and a certain level of badassery.

5. What was the last gift you gave someone?

TT: An animation cell from Hajime no Ippo.

6. What’s the last thing you watched on TV and why did you choose to watch it?

TT: A great ESPN 30 for 30 documentary called “One and Not Done” about John Calipari and his journey through college basketball.  I love documentaries and I love sports, so watching a good sports documentary is the best of both worlds.

7. What is the best advice you've received?

TT: “To thine own self be true.” This is one of my mom’s favourite quotes so I heard it a lot growing up. I think it’s the type of advice that can be very helpful in so many different situations.

8. What quote do you live by?

TT: The Desiderata by Max Ehrmann

9. What is on your bucket list?

TT: So many things, I actually made a 30 before 30 list on my 20th birthday and I almost got them all, still working on a few though! Such as getting to all of the tennis Grand Slam events at least once, the French Open and Australian Open are still on the list.

10. What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

TT: I have worked in great cultural heritage institutions around the world including: the Art Gallery of Ontario, The National Archives (UK), Art Gallery of New South Wales (Sydney, Australia) and MoMA (New York).

Tessa has written some great pieces for the magazine including ‘Tips For Summer Workouts’ (We had no idea you could over-hydrate yourself, who knew?). She is also the founder of Fitknowts, a leader in health and fitness book summaries.
